K-12 Field Programs

Living soil science for schools

Our working urban farm hosts weekday class modules designed around state biology frameworks. We accommodate bus arrivals up to sixty students across morning and midday blocks.

Crop Succession Planting

Pollinator Habitat Mapping

Students prepare slide mounts of active compost and worm castings, identifying nematodes, protozoa, and fungal hyphae under field microscopes with instructor guidance.

Each student measures root depth, calculates spacing inside raised cedar beds, and transplants seasonal brassica seedlings directly into living loam substrate.

Classes track native bee activity, inspect insect nesting blocks along the perimeter trellis, and document flowering companion plants that shield food crops.

Visit Guidelines

Field trip parameters

Every visit includes dedicated agricultural educators, sanitized tool sets, and outdoor handwashing stations designed to keep student groups secure and focused.

Chaperone Ratios

Enclosed Farm Safety

Classroom Seedling Kits

We require one adult chaperone per eight elementary students or ten middle schoolers. Chaperones receive orientation packets upon arrival at the gate.

All beds feature smoothed cedar edges free of chemical treatments. Pathways accommodate wheelchairs and standard mobility devices across packed pea gravel surfaces.

Every student takes home a peat-free propagation pod with heirloom seeds and care logs to continue root observation exercises back at school.
